Drive in marks the start of the New Year

8.30 a.m. Sunday March 16th saw the traditional Captain’s Drive-In at Sale Golf Club. Despite the wintery conditions well over a hundred and fifty turned out to applaud Captain John Stubbs and Lady Captain as they drove from the first tee into a stiff westerly breeze. This year they were joined not only by The President and Professional but also by the Junior Captain, Sarabjit Ranshi.

There followed a Shotgun Texas Scramble with twenty five teams competing. Winners were Hilary Tarleton, Julie Matthews. Michael Sallabank and Rory Jones. Everyone then gathered in the Clubhouse for the presentation and an excellent hot buffet.

In addition to presenting prizes to the first and second teams the winners of the ‘Guess the length of the Captain’s Drive’ and Lady Captain’s Charity Raffle were announced; Vic Drew and Jack Bishop.

In thanking the organisers for arranging the day and everyone present for supporting the event, Captain John Stubbs hoped that there would be many more successful days like this during the coming twelve months.
