Active and Inactive Handicaps

The following is taken from the EGU website:

Active / Inactive Handicaps

‘The EGU and EWGA are to launch a system that will identify the competitive nature of an individual. Approved and supported by CONGU, the "Active/Inactive Handicap" will identify (by the use of an indicator) whether an individual has competed in qualifying competitions and as a result returned information on their playing ability.

The system will be launched in January 2010 and will require all members with CONGU handicaps to have returned at least three qualifying scores each year to ensure they have an active handicap. It follows therefore that three qualifying scores will be required in 2009 to avoid becoming inactive at the start of 2010.

So what is the benefit of such a system? Well firstly and perhaps most importantly it will enable event organisers to run competitions, both Club and Opens, without the fear of players taking part who have ‘false’ handicaps.’

For more information please log on to the EGU website and click on the ‘Handicaps’ heading.

For those of you that play regularly on a Saturday this change will not effect you as you will play in at least three qualifying competitions in 2009 and therefore have an ‘Active Handicap’ for the start of 2010.

Those of you who are happy to continue playing social golf and do not wish to play in qualifying competitions or Open competitions either at Sale or elsewhere will receive an ‘Inactive Handicap’ at the start of 2010 and will be able to continue playing social golf as you do now.

However, those of you who do not play on Saturdays but would wish to play in Open Competitions either at Sale or elsewhere in 2010 may find that that you require an ‘Active Handicap’ to take part.

FEAR NOT, THE SOLUTION IS AT HAND.

Between April and September the club hold 14 midweek competitions on Wednesdays played off the white tees and all of which qualify towards the three scores you need to obtain an ‘Active Handicap’ for 2010.

The dates of these competitions are in the fixture list and will be advertised on the club notice boards well in advance, but below are the dates of the first few.
